The FUMCC Church Council met on Thursday, May 16, for a gathering of discernment and holy conversation. The meeting was first convened as a Charge Conference for the purpose of considering three motions: the election of 2013-2014 Church Officers; the transfer of title to a property owned by the church at High Rock, N.C.; and an adjustment to the housing allowance for Colin Snider, Pastor of Outreach. All three motions were adopted unanimously.
Following the called Charge Conference, the Council celebrated the ministries of our GPS model in the past quarter. The Trustees reported on new signage in the church parking lot indicating that parking is available for guests when not in use by the church. Consensus was reached on adjusting fees for Fellowship Feast meals beginning in September. The new fee schedule will be: children $4.00; seniors $6.00; adults $7.00; family maximum $22.00. The Council was alerted to legislation that will be presented to the Annual Conference in June increasing the church portion of the pastors’ health insurance plan for the first time in seven years (the pastors have had annual increases to their personal portions and will again under the current proposal).
A brief update was offered on the work of the Joel Team. The Finance Committee reported that the church finances are stable through April with both income and expenses tracking consistently with five year historic trends. It was noted, however, that reserves are at 73% of our goal, with the deficit coming from unmet pledges on the Touching Tomorrow Today campaign. The Stewardship Team is following up on the TTT campaign.
It was announced the 2013-2014 Church Council will be installed in sanctuary worship services on June 30 and that a luncheon training event for new council members will follow the 11:05 worship service. The next meeting of the Council will be Thursday, August 1, at 7:00 p.m. for a strategic conversation regarding funding. This will be a joint meeting with the Finance Committee. Members of the Council and the Finance Committee will be reading Not Your Parents’ Offering Plate in preparation for the meeting.
