The three most important things that we can control when it comes to our physical health are: nutrition, exercise, and rest. God gives us the power of choice. What we do is up to us.
There are many helpful guidelines for eating well, exercising, and getting plenty of rest. The shelves at Barnes and Noble are filled with the so-called “How To” books.
But have you considered the question, “Why?” Why should we take care of our body?
For us as Christians, we take care of our body because it is the temple of God’s Spirit, vessel of his grace, and the means by which we serve God and our neighbor. Paul writes that we are to glorify God in our body
(I Corinthians 6:20) and to present it to God as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1).
What one small change can we begin to make in the way we eat, exercise, and rest, that will have the biggest impact on our physical health if done over a long period of time?
Our church’s challenge through The Four Wheels of Health sermon series, is to help you to live a healthier lifestyle. A good way to start each day is to pray, “Lord, how can I use the body that you have given to me in loving service for you today?”
There have been times when I have not taken care of myself and I’ve felt “yucky!” When I have taken care of myself, I have felt energized and ready to take on the day!
I want to take care of myself so I can be a better pastor.
I also want to take care of myself to be a better husband to Polly.
Of course, I’m actually healthier since I married Polly.
She’s in charge of the three “P’s.”
This Sunday I’ll show you how Polly shrunk my cereal bowl.
Enjoy your breakfast and see you Sunday morning!
Blessed to be a blessing,
