Sebastian Bombelli – The Dove of the Holy Spirit
We claim a faith in “one God in three persons.” We say in our creeds that we “believe in the
Holy Spirit.” Yet, we spend far more of our time talking about the first two persons of the
Trinity. For the next five weeks, we will spend time considering the person and work of the
Holy Spirit in our lives and in the life of the church.
May 29 The Gift God Gives Acts 1:1-5
What God gives us is the gift of the Holy Spirit, nothing less than God’s own self at work in us. The Holy Spirit awakens us to the presence of God.
June 5 The Holy Spirit Guides Us Acts 15:24-29
The Holy Spirit guides us in our decision-making. Discernment is a process and a practice that involves prayerful attention to what God is doing in and around us.
June 12 The Holy Spirit Prays For Us Romans 8:26-27
Prayer is not dependent on us finding the right words, but rather the Holy Spirit which searches our heart and knows the mind of God. The Holy Spirit draws out of us an inner groaning that goes far beyond ordinary speech.
June 19 The Holy Spirit Empowers Us to Witness Acts 28:17-24,30-31
The Holy Spirit enables us to give a personal witness to the love of God in Christ Jesus.
June 26 The Holy Spirit Engages Us in Suffering Matthew 16:24-26
The Holy Spirit leads us to compassionate care for a hurting world. To follow Christ is to have our hearts broken by the things that break the heart of Christ – human need and suffering.
