Dorcas Ministries Helping Flood Relief Efforts
Dorcas Ministries needs servants Friday, October 21 through Thursday, October 27 to help us load the truck! If you are interested in serving for a shift (or two), please click HERE.
This shift will require heavy lifting and organizing the donations. Please do not sign up if you do not feel comfortable lifting more than 20 lbs.
Donations will be collected in the empty lot at the front entrance of our parking lot. Look for the Dorcas Truck! When you come in for your shift, you will need to go directly to the truck and sign in there. Servants need to be 14 years of age and up. You do not need to already be a registered volunteer with Dorcas Ministries.
If you have questions about a shift, contact Ellen Frazier at 919.469.9861, ext. 101 or firstname.lastname@example.org.

First UMC Cary Health Ministries sponsors the Cary Unity Walk/Run
Join us on November 12, 2016 8:00am! This inaugural Cary Unity Walk is a historic event to celebrate citizens working together to support local first responders and create a safe, unified, and nurturing community for our youth and our future. As a unified community we will walk together from downtown Cary to Wake Med Soccer Park. Participants will enjoy a Unity Festival and Races (5k, 10K and mile) honoring local Police, Sheriff Deputies, State Troopers, Firefighters, EMS and our military. This event will also benefit area non-profit organizations that serve the many needs in our community:
- The 200 Club of Wake County provides immediate financial help for the families of police officers, sheriff deputies, firefighters, EMS squad members, and North Carolina highway patrol serving in Wake County who lose their life in the line of duty.
- Read and Feed gives low-income elementary school children an appetite for reading by strengthening their literacy skills. Using mobile classrooms, Read & Feed provides meals to eliminate hunger, mentors to help children learn to read, and books to build home libraries.
The fun kicks off near the steps of First UMC Cary with a greeting from Cary Mayor Harold Weinbrecht and a Prayer for Peace from Reverend Green. BE A PART OF THE FUMCC TEAM! There is something for everyone: walk as a team, run, volunteer to help, or just attend the festival at Wake Med! Bring your kids, there will be many activities at the festival (fire trucks, police cars, bounce house, etc.) Sign up for the walk, 5k, 10K or mile fun run by clicking HERE. Use these discount codes and save: 50% off walk and mile code: WalkandMile50, 20% off 5K and 10K code: 5Kand10K20. If walking or running is not your thing, volunteers are needed to help put the event on. Click here to sign up to volunteer for the Cary Unity Walk.

Urgent Need for UMCOR Cleaning Buckets
UMCOR Cleaning Buckets are now urgently needed at MERCI for flooding in Windsor and other parts of Eastern North Carolina. Because many volunteers are working with flood relief, there may not always be someone on site at the warehouse, which is located at 676 Community Drive, Goldsboro, NC. Nevertheless, please leave completed buckets or extra items that can be used in buckets in the shed outside the gate at the MERCI Center.

GriefShare is a 13-week program designed to encourage healing by walking with others who are also grieving. Each week, different topics are addressed in relevant videos, with various individuals sharing their wisdom to promote healing. They share how they were able to find a “new normal” in their lives, filled with joy and hope for the future. If you have lost a loved one and are struggling with your grief, we encourage you attend GriefShare. There is a fee of $15 for the GriefShare workbook. If you are repeating the series and already have your workbook, there is no fee. We will meet Thursdays through December 15 at 7:00pm in room 125. Click here to sign up.
