Kairos Prison Ministry
Kairos #45 at North Carolina Central Prison will be from February 1 through February 4. We are asking that you sign the prayer slips that will be in First Cup and the space outside of the offices. These are a visible reminder to the team members and to the attendees that you are holding us up in prayer. If 2,000 of you would sign a slip committing to pray for us, the chain would completely encircle the gym where we hold the Kairos program. Prayer is one of the most important things in whether a program works or not! This year we are only taking chocolate chip cookies to the prison, and the number has been reduced. If you would like to make cookies, they will be collected in the kitchen on January 29. What we really need are men who will go into the prison to spread the Gospel message through the Kairos program. There are strict guidelines, so please email Scott Hansen at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.
“Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted.” In the book “The Way of Blessedness,” Rev. Marjorie J. Thompson and Rev. Stephen Bryant state: Sometimes God places in our way, even a complete stranger, who offers a touch of grace. In times of crisis we learn to treasure the small, unspectacular gestures of care: a word, a hand, an expression in the eyes. Mourners quickly learn that the greatest comfort in time of unspeakable loss is the simple presence of another human being.” This is what a Stephen Minister offers. If you, or someone you know is going through a time of crisis, a Stephen Minister could be the answer for you. For information about receiving a Stephen Minister, contact David Hedberg (men’s coordinator) at 919-815-2204 and Chuckie Chinault (women’s coordinator) at 919-306-0460.
GriefShare is a 13-week program designed to encourage healing by walking with others who are also grieving. They share how they were able to find a “new normal” in their lives, filled with joy and hope for the future. If you are repeating the series and already have your workbook, there is no fee. We will meet Thursdays, beginning February 2 at 7:00pm in room 125.
