The Church Council met on Thursday, April 6 2017.
Linda Miller, Church Council Chair, opened our meeting by lighting the Christ candle. Mark Schneider, Lay Leader, offered the council a devotion. The council shared celebrations from each ministry area since February.
The Council was then asked if any items from our Forward Thinking Goals needed to be lifted for further discussion or clarifying questions. Please click here for the Forward Thinking Goals.
Area of Discernment:
Proposed changes to the First UMC Cary fleet structure was introduced to the Council at our February meeting. Hal Belk, Trustees chair, reviewed the changes and then asked if there were any questions and/or discussion. The Council approved the proposal from Trustees. Click here for the approved proposal.
Area of Introduction:
Senior Adult Ministry introduced to the Council a proposal for an Adult Day Care at First UMC Cary. Click here for the proposal. The Council approved forming a task force to develop a business plan. The task force will be announced at our next Church Council meeting on June 8, 2017.
The Council then received updates from Finance, SPRC, Building Committee and Stewardship:
- Maureen Sawchak, Finance Chair, shared with the Council that we have ended the first quarter in line with historical results. Our church reserves are 103% funded. Click here for March Financial Reports.
- Brad Henke, SPRC Chair, shared with the Council that Elizabeth Rhoads has joined the First Cary staff team on a part-time basis as the Congregational Care Coordinator. Corey Forrester will join the First Cary staff team on a full-time basis at the end of the month as our Associate Youth Director. Both staff roles were included in our 2017 SPRC budget.
- Curtis Westbrook, Building Committee Chair, reported that we are in discussions with the Town regarding planning for required permits. We can are currently on schedule. We will most likely be ready for a Charge Conference in late Spring, early Summer.
- Emily Thomas, Stewardship Co-Chair, reported that pledges and anticipated contributions for Building to Serve are just over $7.6 million.
The Church Council’s next meeting is Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 7pm in room 200. All are welcome to attend.
