Prison Ministry: Kairos 47
Kairos Prison Ministry Inside team will be going into Central Prison for the 47th time in February from the 7th through the 10th. As usual, I will be soliciting your prayers for the team and for the attendees. We hope to plant the seed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and His loving sacrifice for us. We, in and of ourselves save or convert no one. Jesus Himself told His disciples, “I Am the vine, you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing”. Trust me when I tell you, Jesus takes a central part in our program. We always put a chair with His name on it in the most central spot! I will put prayer chain sheets in the Sunday School folders and in the foyer and First Cup. Please, please look for these and sign a line on the sheet. I will leave them in the Sunday School folders till Sunday, February the 3rd. I’m beginning to get interest from some men in the church about serving on a team. We need men each 6 months to serve with us inside and outside the prison. Cookies do not go to the correctional officers any more, but each of us who go inside need 40 dozen. We have gone to chocolate chip only, so those of you who would like to bake a dozen or two, I will have boxes in the Kitchen on February 3rd to collect them. If I get more than 40 dozen, OK! Some of our team members can’t get all 40 dozen. Again, these are to be 2 1/2 inches in diameter and in quart squeeze and seal bags (not the zipper bags). God blesses this ministry each time we go in and I think a lot of this is because we bathe the ministry in prayer. If anyone is interested in hearing more in a small group of the church or individually about Kairos Prison Ministry, contact me at email@example.com call me. I’m in the church directory.

Discovery 2018 Prayer Vigil
Discovery is a weekend experience for our Middle School Youth. The theme for Discovery 2018 is “Rooted: Discover God’s Love Through Scripture.” Throughout the weekend middle-school youth will discover that God’s love and Spirit will guide us all we experience God’s love together in our community of faith. The youth will also discover that their church family is always there to support and love them in their faith journey.
Each year, we hold a prayer vigil for our youth. We want them to feel loved and supported throughout their entire journey! Time slots are in 30 minute increments and you do not have to be an FUMCC member to pray! Please consider signing up HERE for one (or more!) time to pray for these middle schoolers. Thank you!
New for January 2018 – Discovery Weekend Warrior
We all know being a pre-teen and young teen can have its challenges. We also know this age group is the future of our church, community, and nation. The middle school youth (6th through 8th grade) from our church will be attending a weekend long event at FUMC Cary called ‘Discovery’ on January 26-28, 2018.
The ‘Discovery’ event is a 43-hour spiritual formation retreat for these youth to learn about and experience the love of God. As you have already experienced 6th through 8th grade, you are well positioned to provide our youth the support that will help them open their hearts to this wonderful, personal experience with our Lord Jesus Christ that they will pull on for days and years to come as they lead our church, community and nation.
This weekend shows that the middle school youth have the love and support of the entire congregation. We’d love to make some intergenerational connections that weekend to show them this.
If you meet the following criteria, then you are on your way to becoming a Discovery Weekend Warrior
- Did you complete 6-8thgrade, 10-80 years ago?
- Are you willing to write one note with a few words of encouragement in January to your assigned middle school child?
- Are you willing to pray for your assigned middle child in January that they grow in their faith during Discovery Weekend?
- Are you available to attend worship service January 27, 2018 at 7:00 pm for one hour to support your assigned middle school child by standing up in the pew for a few seconds while he/sheis called to the front to be individually prayed over by name.
- Are you willing to share a few fun facts about you, like where you went to 6thgrade, your favorite color, etc?
- Are you willing to have your picture taken? We want the middle school child to have a name and face with who is praying for them!
We hope are interested in becoming a Discovery Weekend Warrior! Please click here to register. Feel free to reach out to Sandra Smith at email@example.com or Lauren Schafer at firstname.lastname@example.org with questions.
