The Moravian Church is one of the very few churches with a service in its appointed services dedicated to the greatest of all virtues, Christian Love. It is called the Love Feast (or Agape Meal), after the practice of the Early Church of often preceding the Lord’s Supper with a common meal shared in love and fellowship. These “love feasts” are described in the second chapter of the Book of Acts: “They broke bread at home and ate with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of the people.”
In our Love Feasts at First UMC Cary, the common meal consists of rolls and sweetened coffee. Following the blessing, the meal is served to the participants in the pews.
The NewSpirit Choir and both youth handbell choirs will provide music during the service. In addition, we need youth as greeters, ushers and servers and adults as serving guides. Female servers will wear Moravian dresses provided by the church. Ushers, greeters, male servers and adults will wear white shirts and black pants.
There will be a rehearsal on the 11th from 12:15-1:00pm in the sanctuary.
On the evening of the 11th, female servers should be in the Philathea Room at 6:00pm to dress for the service. Ushers, greeters, male servers and adults, please be in the sanctuary at your post by 6:30pm. The service starts at 7:00pm.
Youth in choir and handbells will receive instructions from their director(s) about the evening schedule.
