The United Methodist Women is an organization of church women whose purpose is:
- to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ
- to develop creative, supportive fellowship
- to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church
“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send and who will go for us?’
And, I said, ‘Here am I, send me!’” –Isaiah 6:8 NRSV
Throughout the Bible, God has commanded us to go forth and do his good works. In Genesis 12:1 The LORD tells Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.” And, in Exodus 5:10, God tells Moses to go to Pharoah and tell him to “let his people go.” God promises to help Moses speak well and know what to say, and he promises Abram that he will be the father of a great nation.
In the New Testament, Jesus tells his disciples to “Go and make disciples in all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19.
In 2018, Jesus is summoning us, as UMW members to go wherever He may lead, in all places and all circumstances.
As a member of the worldwide UMW movement, we have many opportunities to Go into the world and make a difference. With a special commitment to women and children, First Cary UMW members generously share their faith and their fellowship with dozens of missions in our community—from Music and Memories and Mighty Mondays to Backpack Buddies and Meals on Wheels.
I look forward to the coming year as we answer God’s call to Go into the world with faith, fellowship and service and share the heart of Christ from the heart of Cary.
With many blessings for you and your families in the year ahead,
Deanna Day, president
