From the beginning of creation, God’s presence has brought forth light in the darkness and life from the dirt. Jesus says, “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” In an encounter with a man who is blind from birth on the Sabbath day, a day of rest for healing, Jesus works to heal. Drawing miracles amidst the mundane, Jesus spits on the ground, makes mud, and spreads it across the man’s eyes. The man is sent both to the pool of Siloam to heal, and to all those who will hear the story of how Jesus brings forth light and life for all who are willing to see.
