There was little waiting between the moment Mary found that she would bear the Child of God and when she went to Elizabeth’s home in the Judean highlands. Just as Mary was carrying the baby Jesus, Elizabeth was carrying his cousin, John the Baptist. So often we hear that it was the women who preached about the resurrection of Jesus at the tomb, but we see in the Scriptures of Luke 1 that it is Elizabeth who prophesies the presence of God on Earth. Mary’s response is one that recognizes who God is, and what it means for God to be with us in both body and Spirit. When we find ourselves in the season of waiting, may we still share the Good News in abundance.
